The Fenway Art Walk

The Reason

Art has always had deep roots in the Fenway, and major cultural institutions like the MFA and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum call it home. Through The Fenway Art Walk, we set out to give the neighborhood a unique artistic experience, placing thoughtful pieces ranging in style and message at street level to be engaged with in a new way.

The Result

The Fenway Art Walk brings a diverse mix of top talent to new corners of the neighborhood. With international talent and local artists making their mark on walls and windows, Samuels & Associates expands our commitment to placemaking and community. This 6-stop self-guided tour, featuring permanent sculptures, show-stopping murals, and a rotating gallery of artists from the Fenway Studios, truly lets the Fenway’s artistic vibe shine. As part of the “Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans” 2021 program, S&A commissioned Japanese contemporary artist Dragon76 to paint a large-scale ocean advocacy mural on the Marshall’s passthrough wall connecting Brookline Avenue and Van Ness Street; and PangeaSeed Foundation artist, Yellena James, installed a large-scale exterior window piece titled Reflection III wrapping on the second story of 100 Van Ness Street. Boston-based MFA Artist in Residence Rob Stull, an accomplished illustrator, curator, and comic book veteran who draws influence from Hip-Hop, created an original installation at 86-88 Van Ness Street. But Stull didn’t stop there. Following the launch of the Art Walk, he brokered a partnership between S&A and The Eliot School’s Teen Bridge program which resulted in an additional mural being added at 86 Van Ness Street, created by the students themselves. The Art Walk also includes previously commissioned public art Plaza (Arcade) by Alexandre da Cuhna located at Pierce Boston and Nicole Eisenman’s Grouping Works from Fountain (2017-2019) located at 401 Park.
