The Fenway Neighborhood
The Reason
As The Fenway welcomes more and more residents each year, exciting programming is activating the community and keeps the neighborhood buzzing – all while celebrating its rich cultural history.
The Result
The Fenway is known for setting the beat of Boston. During the summer of 2018, that concept manifested in literal beats, courtesy of the first-ever Fenway Porchfest.
Inspired by similar initiatives in Jamaica Plain and Somerville, the initiative was the result of a partnership between the Fenway Civic Association, Fenway Alliance and the Fenway Community Development Corporation. The Fenway neighborhood joined over 100 cities across the country in holding an afternoon of free music outside of people’s homes and other public spaces, with professional and amateur musicians and entertainers performing for residents and visitors. The inaugural year’s venues hosted almost 70 performances and included The Verb Hotel, Van Ness and The Fenway Community Center.
